Project: Newport City Dressing Tender
Client: Newport City Council
SLS is delighted to be implementing the largest city dressing scheme in the UK this year. Wales’s third largest city, Newport is having a complete make-over in the run up to hosting the 2010 Ryder Cup.
SLS (which counts dressing Liverpool during its year as Capital of Culture 2008 among its claims to fame) is working with Newport City Council to add colour and creative solutions throughout the city.
Installations include over 100 temporary flagpoles; lamppost banners, High Street tree wraps and catenary wire installations; a community art trail on hoardings, large format building wraps, lighting schemes, empty shop window displays, a Ryder Cup Fan Park, dressing visitor touch points, grot spot treatments and individual dressing solutions that add sparkle to the city, in a year-long dressing programme that aims to echo community spirit and promote the variety of events that are taking place in the city this year.
Over the next few months a number of key landmarks will be decorated using building wraps; city centre streets will be laced with catenary banners; trees will be wrapped using the Festival 2010 colours and major landmarks such as Newport Castle will be dressed.
Project: P&O Cruises christens Azura in Southampton
Client: Fleet Maritime Events
SLS were commissioned by Fleet Maritime Events to dress the new cruise terminal in Southampton for the launch of P&O Cruises’ latest ship, Azura.
The new terminal provides a fantastic space to work with, large atriums, high ceilings and plenty of light. SLS was required to provide all aspects of the event signage and the Look. To create the right balance between branding and elegance, we installed a series of large photographic images to hang in the atrium roof; 6m x 2m printed fabrics were hung in the check-in hall, window vinyls added a light touch of corporate branding, all this complemented by an “intelligent” lighting system.
Additional venue-specific and tour route signage was provided on board the ship. The Look was not complete until we had added flagpoles, carpet, entrance features and various wayfinding to the concourse!!
“The launch was a great success and all our guests thoroughly enjoyed their stay on board. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the SLS team, who delivered all our requirements with great enthusiasm”. Donna Vernon, Fleet Maritime Events.
Project: The Virgin London Marathon 2010
Client: The London Marathon
With the arrival of Virgin as the title sponsor for this year’s London Marathon it was anticipated that the branding would be an important element in the event essentials.
This was the case and SLS saw a substantial increase over previous years in the number of event hardware elements such as gantries and flagpoles.
With seven 6m span truss arches designating key areas, various free standing signage and twenty eight 6m flagpoles being used for both “Look” and wayfinding the overall effect was very positive and created a vibrant look to the event start at Blackheath.
In addition SLS installed a number of free standing crossing points along the route from the Blackheath start to the finish in Central London.
A tight schedule had to be maintained in accordance with the organisers’ plan for minimum disruption to City’s traffic system. However Saturday being a very warm day and Sunday afternoon also being balmy the SLS crew enjoyed being part of this exciting and iconic event.
Project: MINT Polo in the Park 2010
Client: World Polo Ltd
Following its inaugural event in 2009, MINT Polo in the Park 2010, held at Hurlingham Park was a three day celebration of international polo and family entertainment.
There was a buzzing atmosphere around the venue, which SLS dressed with various branding elements complete with public information points and directional signage to project the venue’s Look. Along with flagpoles, SLS also organised hoardings, fence scrim, marquees and furniture.
Project: The launch of the new Fourth Floor at Harvey Nichols
Client: Harvey Nichols
Harvey Nichols on tour…
The new Fourth Floor at Harvey Nichols deserved something very different, a funky launch…the solution: take a “snapshot” and show it off around London.
SLS reproduced this “snapshot” within 2 shipping containers and toured 4 venues in central London over 4 days. A trainer wall, hi-tech vending machine, tattoo artist, a dinosaur and lots of gorgeous products were installed into 2 containers. Together with the Silver Leopard design team and Fiona Leahy, SLS fitted out the containers, branded the exterior and set off to London.
Overnight, the containers were lifted into Hanover Square, joined by a 3rd container decked out by SLS as a café creating a mini festival; rock n’roll with Sam Ronson and Daisy Dares You, delicious catering by Bistrotheque. Craned out that night and moved onto the Southbank for Friday, then onto Westbourne Grove and Spitalfields on Sunday.
Andrea Heaviside, Events Manager and Shona Campbell, Group Marketing Manager of Harvey Nichols said, “The SLS team provided excellent support on this project, constantly problem solving and finding solutions for our very demanding idea. As this type of promotion was a first for Harvey Nichols, we needed everything to be meticulously planned and executed and SLS played a pivotal role in the success of this project. It was a challenge to keep up the schedule, exhausting but very rewarding. We loved working with the SLS team, especially the trips down to the workshops in Hampshire to see the containers coming to life”.
