latest news
SLS is now proud to be a part of ICON DISPLAY.
SLS Group has now joined the International event branding business Icon.
We have worked with Icon on many high profile events, most recently the 2010 Ryder Cup held at Celtic Manor. John Francis, Managing Director at Icon commented, "We are delighted to have been able to agree this acquisition and are confident that SLS' skills will enhance our own offering to bring real benefit to both new and existing clients who are looking for a genuinely turnkey solution."
The SLS brand will remain and will continue to operate from our existing premises in Hampshire. Giles joins the Icon Board of Directors. The SLS teams are excited and looking forward to working with Icon.
Ryder Cup & Newport City
SLS provided over 250 flagpoles for that stunning victory down in Celtic Manor. Despite the weather, the event looked fabulous and we were delighted to be working with Icon Display to help create a spectacular venue.
Meanwhile, in Newport City Centre, SLS transformed the "Look" of the City to create an atmosphere of expectation and excitement. We installed 300 lamp posts, 2km of fence scrim, another 200 flagpoles, including the "Big One", (our 22m pole), five temporary billboards, 10 branded containers, city centre wayfinding, a fanzone with large screen and a countdown clock.
Newport made a big effort as Host City to “show-off” and be proud of themselves. This ambition to look great in front of the world’s press is the key to all mega event marketing; SLS was delighted to be part of that.
Thames River Festival
In September London sees the embankment spring to life for the weekend of The Mayor's Thames Festival. A spectacular event attracting in excess of 750,000, that encompasses such offerings as the “Feast on the Bridge” and a massive fireworks display amongst numerous free events.
Subsequently, the need to deliver an attractive “Look” and focused way finding and festival awareness programme within a very tight time frame for both sponsors and the festival audience was essential. SLS was appointed to carry out this important role and a clever use of a variety of their branding, signage and way finding products ensured great success.
As part of the brief over 400 banners were also fitted to crowd barriers for the Sunday morning parade within another tight schedule.
Overall SLS provided Toblerones, Gantries, Correx Signage, A Frames, Banners and Fence Scrim to the entire festival site stretching from The London Eye to Tower Bridge.
X40 Extreme Sailing Series
For another successful year SLS has worked with OC Events to construct and operate all the onshore hospitality facilities for this unique series. At each venue we built and fitted out large hospitality structures, branded and dressed the race village. The venues were Sete, France; Cowes, UK; Keil, Germany; Trapani, Sicily; Almeria, Spain.
Quite a logistical challenge, but a really rewarding event. Roll on next year!!
QE Launch, Southampton October
SLS was very proud to be involved in the historic launch of Queen Elizabeth for Cunard this October. We had worked on her sister ships, the Queen Mary and Queen Victoria, and were delighted to work with Cunard on the launch of QE.
The new Ocean Terminal in Southampton provided the venue and it was our task to dress it appropriately; external flagpoles, lots of red carpet, lots of beautiful archive images, new colour schemes, functional wayfinding and guest information. All this, combined with the great weather, made for a fantastic inauguration by Her Majesty the Queen.
